Inspection Billing Policies

This Blast explains the updated billing policy that will be used to determine chargeable tests for stations, which applies to all tests performed on or after December 1, 2006.

Stations will be charged a transaction fee for any test that meets one of the following criteria:

  • All initial tests performed on vehicles subject to OBD testing
  • Retests on OBD vehicles that have not received an OBD-only rejection during any inspection in the current cycle.
  • Retests that occur more than 60 days after the first OBD rejection in the current cycle.

Regardless of where the previous NHOST OBD test was performed, stations will not be charged a transaction fee except as described above. Any retests after the 60-day period referenced in item 3, even if the vehicle continues to fail OBD, will be charged a transaction fee. This 60-day non-chargeable period is designed to be the same as the waiver period that the motorist has to get the vehicle repaired following the date of initial OBD rejection.
